A Dream Within A Dream 1827年



Take this kiss upon the brow!
And, in parting from you now,
Thus much let me avow-
You are not wrong, who deem
That my days have been a dream;
Yet if hope has flown away
In a night, or in a day,
In a vision, or in none,
Is it therefore the less gone?
All that we see or seem
Is but a dream within a dream.

I stand amid the roar
Of a surf-tormented shore,
And I hold within my hand
Grains of the golden sand-
How few! yet how they creep
Through my fingers to the deep,
While I weep- while I weep!
O God! can I not grasp
Them with a tighter clasp?
O God! can I not save
One from the pitiless wave?
Is all that we see or seem
But a dream within a dream?

その眉にキスさせて。
きみとさよならするんだよね
でもこのことだけ、言わせて欲しいんだ──

全部夢だった……

そうかもしれないね

でも　あの楽しかった時間が
ある夜　ある昼
幻やうたかたのように消えてしまったからって
だからって
それが全部夢だったって言える？
ぼくたちがいま見たり感じたりしてることだって
夢の夢なんだから

ぼくは
寄せ波がはげしくくだける荒磯のただなかに立ってる

手には黄金の砂粒をいくつか握りしめてる──
ほんのわずかだけど

それらがぼくの指の間からすべり落ちていってしまう

ぼくは泣いているだけ

ああ神さま
ぼくはもっとしっかり手を握りしめることはできないのでしょうか

ああ神さま
ぼくはほんの一粒だけでも
つめたい荒波から守ることはできないのでしょうか

ぼくたちが見たり感じたりしてることはみんな
夢の夢にすぎないのでしょうか。
